Chapter 78

Olivia had grown accustomed to skeptics by now. She remained composed, though Isabella beside her bristled with visible irritation. "You—" Isabella began, but Olivia subtly raised a hand to stop her. Representing Whitmore Holdings demanded absolute professionalism.

With practiced ease, Olivia turned to the clients, her smile warm yet authoritative.

Isabella translated Olivia's graceful hand movements. "Allow me to clarify an important point. The restoration process for calligraphic works depends entirely on the material's condition and damage extent. Severe deterioration makes mounting impossible, requiring alternative techniques."

The clients had been puzzled by vague documentation, but as Olivia elaborated through Isabella's translation, their confusion melted away.

One client exclaimed, "Ah, now I understand! I thought perhaps there'd been an oversight, but your expertise is undeniable!"

Olivia maintained her poised expression as she signed, "I represent Whitmore Holdings, and upholding our reputation is my foremost duty."

After Isabella translated, the client regarded Olivia with newfound respect. "You've completely altered my perception of your company!"

"And how's that?" came an unexpected voice from the doorway. William Hayes himself stood there, impeccably dressed.

Olivia's lips curved into a genuine smile at his arrival. William turned to the client. "Do enlighten me."

The client and William appeared to be old acquaintances. After exchanging pleasantries, the client praised Olivia enthusiastically. "William, I heard you paid a fortune to bring Olivia on board. Initially, I assumed she was just window dressing."

William burst into hearty laughter. "When have I ever made such superficial decisions? You think so little of my judgment?"

"My apologies! Drinks are on me next time!" The older client suddenly seemed deferential in William's presence. "Having witnessed Olivia's skills today, I must say your discernment remains impeccable!"

William beamed at the compliment while Olivia stood quietly, savoring this hard-earned validation. Proving her professional worth meant more than any admiration for her status or appearance could.

After seeing the clients off, William praised Olivia again. "I knew Henry wasn't exaggerating about you! Why else would he specifically ask me to mentor you?"

Olivia's curiosity sparked. She signed to William, "What exactly did Henry tell you? Would you share the details?"

William considered her question before responding, "Why not join me for dinner at my estate? I'll reveal everything then."

Without hesitation, Olivia nodded in agreement.

William instructed his butler to provide Olivia with the details before departing.

Assuming this was merely a casual dinner, Olivia initially decided against mentioning it to Liam. However, reconsidering, she thought transparency might prevent misunderstandings.

When Olivia mentioned the dinner, Liam's brow furrowed. "You're going alone?"

Olivia confirmed, explaining William hadn't specified bringing anyone.

Liam's expression darkened. "This Saturday?"

At her confirmation, Liam's face grew stormy, though he seemed to bite back whatever comment came to mind.

Olivia assumed he was displeased about her solo outing but dismissed it. Liam's opinions mattered less to her with each passing day.

Yet when Saturday arrived and Olivia entered the Hayes mansion, she froze. What she'd anticipated as an intimate dinner was in fact a lavish family gala.

Dressed in a simple black cocktail dress suitable for a private meal, Olivia now stood painfully underdressed amidst the glittering Hayes women in their designer gowns.

Victoria was first to notice her and immediately erupted in cruel laughter. "Look what the cat dragged in! Who let this provincial mouse into our gathering? She must be lost!"

"Being mute clearly affects her fashion sense too!"

"Poor Mr. Blackwood, no wonder he seeks companionship elsewhere. Who could bear having this useless creature at home?"

Victoria's vicious remarks emboldened other relatives to join the mockery, their cruel laughter surrounding Olivia.

"Someone remove her! Where's security? How did she even get past the gates?"
