Chapter 279
Olivia had no choice but to yield under Julian's persistent request. She gave a reluctant nod, her fingers tightening around her purse strap.
Julian hadn't forgotten his original purpose. He motioned for Seraphina and Gwendolyn to approach.
The two women's expressions froze with visible discomfort, their steps hesitant as they moved forward.
Gwendolyn spoke first, her voice strained. "I sincerely apologize for my words yesterday. There was no malicious intent. Please don't take offense."
Seraphina offered a tight smile. "Let's put this behind us and start fresh."
Olivia waved her hand dismissively, signaling the matter was closed. She needed to escape this awkward situation quickly - there were urgent questions she needed to ask Donovan.
As Olivia turned to leave, Julian fell into step beside her.
"Olivia, are you going to see Alistair?" Julian asked with practiced charm. "Would you mind if I joined you? I've procured some experimental medication that might help his condition. I'd like his physician's opinion. His recovery means everything to me."
Olivia suppressed a sigh as tension crept into her temples.
She had to admit Julian had shown nothing but courtesy since their meeting. Despite her curt responses yesterday and today, he'd maintained his composure perfectly. This realization stirred an uncomfortable twinge of guilt.
Yet no matter how polite Julian behaved, Olivia couldn't shake her instinctive wariness. Donovan might not articulate his care with flowery words, but his consistent actions spoke volumes. With Donovan, she felt an inexplicable sense of safety she couldn't explain.
Faced with Julian's expectant smile, Olivia found herself nodding despite her reservations. "Fine," she conceded.
Alistair's face brightened immediately when Olivia entered, but the warmth faded when he noticed Julian behind her. Still, he maintained his gracious demeanor.
"Grandfather, how are you feeling today?" Julian moved to Alistair's side, his voice dripping with concern. "I consulted several specialists and brought you this medication. Where's your doctor?"
Alistair gestured to Winston, who promptly summoned the physician.
After examining the medication, the doctor nodded approvingly. "This is remarkable - not yet commercially available. Mr. Kensington must have significant connections to obtain this."
Julian smiled modestly. "It was nothing. An old friend in the industry helped. The cost was insignificant compared to Grandfather's health."
The room murmured with admiration at Julian's devotion.
Olivia seized the opportunity to excuse herself. With Julian present, this wasn't the time for private conversation.
She needed to find Donovan immediately - to convince him to help persuade Alistair about the possibility she might not be biologically related to the Kensingtons.
