Chapter 240

Evelyn understood the gravity of this opportunity. This was her moment to establish ties with the prestigious Kensington family, just as Olivia had done with the Whitmores. Though Evelyn had once criticized Olivia's methods, she now recognized their brilliance. If she could become an honored guest of the Kensingtons, she wondered how Seraphina would dare treat her then.

At these words, Seraphina's panic surged. She grabbed Donovan's arm and pulled him aside. "Donovan, have you lost your mind? You know perfectly well—"

"That's precisely why I did it." Donovan's voice carried heavy disappointment as he rubbed his temples. "I've been too distracted lately to notice your actions. I never imagined you'd go this far. Have you considered how this affects our family? What you're doing is clearly unethical."

Seraphina scoffed. "Ethics? Evelyn seduced Liam away from his wife first. Why can't I play the same game?"

Donovan's headache intensified as disappointment flashed in his eyes. The sweet, well-behaved girl he remembered had become this? He regretted not intervening sooner.

If only Alistair had raised Seraphina with his strict principles. But when her parents returned, they'd immediately reclaimed custody. Over time, her moral compass had become completely distorted.

Donovan's grip tightened on Seraphina's wrist, his voice laced with warning. "Just because others lack morals doesn't mean you should too. I've indulged you too long. Continue down this path, and I'll have no choice but to send you away."

Seraphina met his threat with an icy glare. "My parents and brother would never speak to me like this. You've changed, Donovan. Now all you care about is that missing cousin. Why waste energy on someone who's probably dead?"

Donovan's hand twitched as if to strike. "Say that again and it won't just be words."

Noticing the watching crowd, Seraphina lowered her head in false submission. "I understand."

Donovan saw through the act but let it pass. As he turned to leave, Seraphina stopped him urgently. "Wait—you said Grandfather met Evelyn? And approves of her? Is this true?"

Donovan nodded. "Yes. Someone returned him to us. When I found him, he kept saying he'd found our missing cousin. My investigation suggests Evelyn brought him back. Since Grandfather is the only one who knew our aunt and cousin, if he believes it's her..." He trailed off meaningfully.

Seraphina's eyes widened in disbelief. "But Evelyn has parents! Our aunt and uncle died years ago. There must be some mistake."

The possibility that Evelyn might be their long-lost relative made Seraphina's previous hostility seem ridiculous. Worse, she'd have to address Evelyn as "cousin"—an unbearable thought.

Noticing her turmoil, Donovan added quietly, "I suggest you stop antagonizing Evelyn. If we're reunited and she seeks retribution, I won't interfere."
