Chapter 514
Olivia's mind swirled with conflicting emotions as she left the doctor's office. The pregnancy test results burned a hole in her purse, yet she couldn't bring herself to make any hasty decisions. There was still time to consider her options carefully.
As she straightened her coat, a familiar figure rounded the corner. Evelyn Hartley stood frozen, her bloodshot eyes widening in recognition. The woman looked gaunt, her movements stiff and unnatural as she swayed on her feet.
Olivia immediately quickened her pace, but Evelyn suddenly pivoted and blocked her path. With surprising speed, Evelyn yanked the medical report from Olivia's grasp. Her eyes darted across the page before her lips curled into a venomous smirk.
"Pregnant?" Evelyn's shrill voice cut through the hospital corridor. "Again? Who's the unfortunate father this time? Or do you even know?" She let out a cruel laugh. "Some things never change, do they? Still spreading your legs for any man who glances your way."
Olivia saw red. Before she could stop herself, her palm connected with Evelyn's cheek in a resounding slap that echoed down the hallway. The impact sent Evelyn staggering backward, the report fluttering to the floor.
"None of your damn business," Olivia hissed through clenched teeth as she retrieved the document.
Evelyn clutched her stinging cheek, outrage flashing in her eyes. "You bitch! How dare you—"
"I'll do more than that if you don't back off," Olivia countered coldly, her smile not reaching her eyes.
Evelyn's face contorted with rage. This wasn't the meek Olivia she'd once bullied into submission. The transformation was startling—and infuriating.
Undeterred, Evelyn raised her voice, broadcasting Olivia's pregnancy to the growing crowd. "Look at this shameless woman! Knocked up with some random man's bastard! What kind of mother—"
"Shut your filthy mouth!" A woman in scrubs snapped. "There's nothing wrong with being a single mother."
"Yeah, who are you to judge?" another bystander chimed in. "Divorce doesn't mean she can't find love again."
The tide of public opinion turned swiftly against Evelyn. Her confident sneer faltered as more people voiced their disapproval. "That's not what I—I only meant her!" Evelyn sputtered, pointing at Olivia. "She's been with half the men in Newport! This child probably doesn't even know its own father!"
"Enough!" A deep voice thundered through the corridor. Sebastian Whitmore pushed through the crowd, his jaw clenched so tightly the muscle twitched visibly. His stormy gaze pinned Evelyn in place like a butterfly to a board.
