Chapter 343

"Exactly, Isabelle. You'll recover faster if you follow the doctor's orders and rest properly."

Today, Isabelle was being uncharacteristically defiant. Her small hands trembled as she reached for Olivia, desperate for her mother's embrace.

Olivia's stomach twisted when she noticed the IV line ready for blood extraction. Adopting a firm tone, she warned, "Isabelle, if you don't cooperate, Mommy will get very upset."

The words made Isabelle freeze instantly. Silent tears rolled down her pale cheeks.

Moving to the bedside, Olivia gently wiped away her daughter's tears, forcing a reassuring smile that quickly dissolved into her own tears. "I'm so sorry, sweetheart," she whispered, guilt crushing her chest. "This is all my fault. I should have kept you safer."

Isabelle shook her head vigorously. When she spoke, her voice was raspy but determined. "Not your fault. Mine. Mommy, don't cry. Be strong too."

The nurses exchanged surprised glances.

"Remarkable. Her mother truly makes a difference. We've been wondering about her vocal recovery, but she barely spoke until now."

Olivia dabbed her eyes and addressed the medical staff. "Thank you all for your patience. Isabelle may be young, but she's incredibly proud. This situation is difficult for her to accept. Please bear with her a little longer."

The nurses immediately praised Isabelle's maturity beyond her years.

"Not a problem at all. She's been exceptionally well-behaved, though reluctant to speak or eat. During injections especially - she never fights us. That quiet bravery breaks our hearts every time."

"Oh, it's devastating. What kind of monster would hurt such an angelic child?"

Olivia's hands clenched at the comment. Even strangers could see how precious Isabelle was.

After gentle persuasion, Isabelle finally managed a small smile.

The once-vibrant child had become withdrawn since the incident, still visibly affected by her trauma.

Though no one had described the attack's details to Olivia, she could imagine the terror her daughter must have endured.

Having extended her own hospital stay, Olivia decided against returning to the Kensington estate. She planned to take Isabelle to Eldermere upon discharge - a decision that clearly displeased Donovan.

At the hotel suite, the bodyguard escorted Olivia inside where Donovan waited unexpectedly accompanied by Alistair.

Alistair's face lit up when he saw Olivia. He rushed forward eagerly. "Olivia! Where have you been hiding? I've missed you terribly!"

Olivia's startled gaze flew to Donovan for explanation.

Donovan merely shrugged helplessly. Alistair was having another episode.

These days, Alistair remained lucid only half the time. Even during coherent moments, he often refused to speak. His silence always signaled another impending spiral.
