Chapter 369
A shrill voice pierced through the crowd. "That homewrecker is trying to escape!" The murmuring mass immediately turned their attention toward the exit, surging forward like a tidal wave.
Evelyn's lips curled into a venomous smirk. "Let's strip this shameless woman naked and expose her to the world!" she declared with malicious glee. "That'll teach her not to seduce other women's fiancés."
Her words ignited the mob's bloodlust. Dozens of predatory eyes locked onto Olivia with frightening intensity. The crowd's morality had been easily swayed by Evelyn's poisonous words.
Olivia's limbs turned to ice. Realizing escape was impossible, she shoved Amelia away urgently. "Run and call the police!" she commanded. "Leave me here. My injured leg will only slow you down. Getting help is more important than both of us being trapped."
As Olivia spoke, rough hands grabbed her wrists while others seized her arms with bruising force.
Amelia's eyes widened in terror before she finally managed to slip through the crowd. Olivia was right - dragging her injured boss would only doom them both.
Olivia struggled futilely against the grasping hands. Just as someone's fingers hooked into her blouse collar, a powerful figure charged through the crowd with a thunderous kick. "Enough!" Sebastian's voice boomed across the room.
Silence fell instantly.
Tears streaked down Olivia's face as she stood frozen in shock. Sebastian's furious gaze swept across the crowd before landing on Evelyn, who had been hiding behind her minions.
Evelyn paled when she saw Sebastian arrive with his security team. Biting her lip, she stepped forward with practiced distress. "Sebastian, tell me honestly," she pleaded. "Did this woman seduce you first? What's so special about her? She's nothing but a lying homewrecker who preys on engaged men. Don't let her deceive you."
Sebastian took a measured breath. "Did you organize this mob?" he demanded.
"Not exactly," Evelyn hedged. "People were simply outraged by her shameless behavior. She deserves this public humiliation."
The head butler, eager to curry favor, chimed in. "Mr. Whitmore, we're doing this for you and your fiancée. With your wedding approaching, we can't allow scandals. This shameless woman has caused Miss Hartley so much distress she's lost weight from crying every night."
Evelyn nodded dramatically, perfecting her victim act.
Olivia straightened her posture and fixed Evelyn with an icy stare. "Sebastian," she said coldly. "Tell them who I really am."
Sebastian's fists clenched, his fury directed entirely at Evelyn. "Olivia is not a homewrecker. There is no inappropriate relationship between us. She owns this auction house - I'm merely the director because she appointed me. Evelyn, are you trying to get yourself blacklisted from every high society event?"
Evelyn's eyes bulged. "What nonsense!" she shrieked. "You're the Whitmore heir! Why would you need employment from Olivia? Everyone knows the Kensingtons barely tolerate her! How could someone like her possibly own such a prestigious auction house?"
Sebastian's frown deepened dangerously. "Whether Olivia is favored by her family has no bearing on her business acumen. Evelyn, Olivia was willing to overlook your previous transgressions. But today you crossed a line even I won't defend."
Evelyn trembled with rage, but her voice dripped with false bravado. "What exactly can she do to me? A nobody like Olivia is powerless against my family! Sebastian, you're my fiancé! You promised to marry me - swore I was the only woman you'd ever wed!"
